Coming from Brooklyn Drastico shares his goals on how to make his mark.

Bionica: Drastico. Puerto Rican, from Brooklyn. Tell me a little about yourself, your style in music and what inspires you.
Drastico: When it comes to music, I love anything urban. I like hip-hop and R&B–similar to Drake. What I want to do, is change the music genre with my Puerto Rican-American flow. Quiero hacer lo miasma. What they do in english, I want to do in spanish along the lines of R&B and hip-hop.

Vein-Translation

To me a good song is one that pulls you in not just because of the lyrics but because of the body of music too. You know, the fusion of beats and sounds that makes you itchy to just shake it and work the dance floor or just mellow out with some lyrics. Well Vein is a mastermind in what is called producing. He has worked with artists like Ricky Martin, Pitbull & J Balvin to name a few. Make sure to check him out because he's got something for every groove!

Vein: Estoy aquí apoyando a mi amigo Fresh KQ.
Bionica: Has trabajado con muchos artistas.
Put It Down.

Napoles-Fragment Muzik

After meeting with Napoles, I was just taken aback by this man's honorable humility. He is a talented producer and writer that has worked with an array of artists such as that Bronx heartthrob–yes ladies, I'm talking about Prince Royce. His hard work has earned him Grammy nominations and his encouraging spirit shared some very valuable advice for anyone looking to have a career in music.

Bionica: Napoles, you are a musical genius. What advice do you have for those musicians that are starting out and really want to stand out? What's something that you would say they have to have?
Napoles: Well the first thing is to be yourself. Many times people are at a place in which they say 'I want to be different' and they end up being like everyone else. Be yourself and leave your ego at the door. In this industry, in this world, you have to be able to let yourself be guided by those that know more than you. And keep going for your dream.

Nayi-Explicame

Ok so he's sweet, romantic, tall and he could sing. However ladies I do believe this man is already taken, but that's ok because Nayi can still make us swoon with his smooth songs. I had the pleasure of hearing his song Explicame live and I was totally floored. Here's what he had to say about it…

Nayi: I'm from Barquisimento, the city of music (of Venezuela). Nayi is fresh, love, humility, charisma… I have a new song called Explicame. My video which was filmed here in NY is already out. I'm happy to celebrate with Latin Mix and everyone that's here like El Chevo, I just saw El Chevo not too long ago.
Bionica:  Can you sing a little of Explicame?
Nayi: Of course. Can you explain–is it your eyes or your smile? Can you explain if it's your hair that hypnotizes… Just hear me out, don't be afraid if I steal a kiss. It's just that I'm so into you, crazy, crazy over you–Venezuela! You got it baby!
Bionica: What inspired this song? What inspires you to write?
Nayi: I wrote this song 2 years ago in Miami. Well, this happens to everyone. When you get somewhere and then you find that person. The guy or the girl that you like and makes you nervous and you don't know how to approach them. Then all of a sudden your sitting down and that person is next to you, the lights go on and you say to yourself 'Oh my God. What do I do now? Explain this to me…' And the song stemmed from there.
Bionica: Tell me a little bit about your style. You're very trendy, I love it!
Nayi: My style, my style is very chill. I'm here with my friends, in family.
Bionica: Who are you wearing today?
Nayi: I''ve got Nike, H&M, Zara, Diesel…We're getting there little by little.
Bionica: Me encanta. Ay Vamos like J Balvin.
Nayi: Nayi. You got it baby!

Latin Mix Awards In NYC

¡Flashback friday!

Tulile

This past July, I had the honor of attending the New York Latin Mixx Awards which along with a DJ forum, honors those that have made their special mark in the music industry such as artists, impresarios, producers, influencers and djs among others. It was hosted at Stage 48 where guests were able to enjoy a freestyle performance by George Lamond along with Judy Torres and K Seven who presented the Life Time Achievement award to Sal Abbatiello–the man responsible for hip-hop music and that good ol' freestyle dance! Some interviews below.

His name is Sal Abbatiello and he just happens to be hip-hop's big poppa after finding the movement some time ago in the Bronx, NY. Owning some of the biggest night clubs in the city, including Disco Fever which was in the 1985 movie Krush Groove, Sal Abbatiello can't help it but be a fundamental piece in what shaped the music that we listen to today.

Sal Abbatiello

What exactly is a trail blazer? Is it that all terrain/weather vehicle that you can't be with out? No, well actually yes it is, just not in this case. In this case it happens to refer to Gustavo Lopez, the Universal Music Latin Entertainment exec whose efforts in taking latin music to the next level have earned him this award. I had the pleasure of chatting with Gus, and this is what he said…

Bionica: From what I understand, you used to work at a cd store.
Gustavo Lopez: Correct.
Bionica: And after working a while, if I'm not mistaken, you wanted to leave Universal and you were told "No, we're going to give you a record label to take care of." which goes to say that you know a little bit about something.
Gustavo Lopez:
Bionica: How did you feel when you were told "Look, this is yours. Do what ever you want with it.'?
Gustavo Lopez: You know, it was a very interesting moment in my career because it wasn't something that I was expecting, especially when you're unsure and have the doubt that you may not be able to do the same things as some of the big execs of the industry. I was only 32 years old at the time. It was an incredible challenge and an opportunity that I thank God for being able to make the most of it.
Bionica: What's the best tip or lesson that you've gotten from your experiences.

Gustavo Lopez: You have to keep trying and stay positive without going over anyone. When you have faith in what you believe and perservere, things will happen. Your mistakes and hardships in life are the things that will teach you to be better.
Bionica: How do you feel receiving the Trail Blazer award today?
Gustavo Lopez: You know, I have a lot of respect for DJs. I'm not a musician but I was a DJ at one point and not a very good one. I love this atmosphere, simply because I find that the DJs are the first to know about what's going on out there. For me, It's an honor and I've been supporting Latin Mixx ever since I learned about it 5 years ago. This is something that also makes me proud and I give the DJs all the credit. There are times where they're working someplace at 8 in the evening and they keep on going to 4 or 5 in the morning. It's a lot more work than what people might think.

¡Salsa Salsa Salsero!

When you hear good music, you can't help but get lost in it. More often than not, I think that's the pointto enjoy it so much that you become one with it. Simply, a body of music.
Well that's what it feels like listening to Marlow Rosado in collaboration with Larry Harlow. It's an epic quality for the dancer and listener.
And on March 10, Miami is going to feel the groove of Rosado's new album Harlow Marlow Volume 1at El Tucán. Just don't forget your dancing shoes while you're there ;)

The album will be available in March via Itunes & Amazon.
