Vee Bravo llegó a Chile en medio de una batalla con cámara en mano, un corazón fuerte y lleno de coraje y ganas de alzar la voz por el bien de su país dándole vida a su documental Primera que formará parte del Tribeca Film Festival del 9 a 20 de Junio 2021.
Su debut será el 12 de Junio 2021 a las 6pm hora del este y también habrá disponibilidad para ver el documental via la plataforma virtual del festival.
Este gran documental ha sido dirigido y producido por Vee Bravo en equipo con Catherine Gund también productora, Kevin López productor y Elisa Correa editora.
Este cuarteto ha contribuido amor & dedicación al arte. Vee Bravo ha documentado el hip-hop, política y cultura juvenil por mas de 20 años.
Chatherine Gund es fundadora y directora de Aubin Pictures cuyo trabajo con enfoque en el arte, cultura e injusticias raciales le han meritado nominaciones para un premio Emmy.
Kevin López tiene su propia compañía de producción LPZ Media en Nueva York, pero también trabaja con las escuelas públicas de NYC para enseñar sobre los medios del arte y cine.
Elisa Correa, cineasta chilena ha formado parte del equipo de producción de TVN y Canal 13, en Chile y Make-A-Wish Foundation, Jadore Love & Shutter Sound entre otros.

In the fall of 2019 the world saw how millions of Chilean citizens took to the streets of their beloved country seeking a change in their constitution. A change in favor of the people, guided by the principles of equality and dignity for all. The fight hasn’t been easy, but it is a fight after all.
Vee Bravo arrived in Chile amidst a battle of the people with a camera in one hand, a strong heart full of courage and the need to shed light on what was happening for the good of his country, giving life to his documentary Primera. As part of the Tribeca of the Tribeca Film Festival which will take place from the 9 to the 20th of June 2021, it will make its debut on the 12 of June 2021 at 6pm EST and will also be available online via the festivals digital platform.
This documentary has been produced and directed by Vee Bravo in conjunction with Catherine Gund & Kevin López, also producers and Elisa Correa as editor.
This team has given so much love and dedication to the arts. Vee Bravo has documented hip-hop, youth culture and politics for more than 20 years.
Catherine Gund is the founder & director of Aubin Pictures and her work in the arts, culture and racial injustices has merited her Emmy nominations.
Kevin López has co-founded LPZ Media and he also works with New York City Public Schools to teach the youth about film & art.

Regresamos al mes de Mayo en el 2014 en el que comparto con vosotros momentos con artistas que son luz través de su arte y pasión.
Su nombre es Andres Levin, un cantautor & productor nacido en Venezuela con vibras buenas que ha contribuido mucho a la industria musical como la creación del grupo Yerba Buena con la hermosa Cucu Diamantes. Me gustan porque sus líricas son capaces de hacerte sonreír y pensar a la vez que estas bailando el ritmo.
En el 2013 la Venezolana, Gabriela Isler fue coronada como Miss Universo y la verdad es que es una persona tan bonita por dentro como lo es por fuera. Al conocerla me encontré con un ser amable y humilde con quien hablé sobre moda y la situación que aun lamentamos de Venezuela que sigue bajo la dictadura de Nicolas Maduro.

In a flashback to May of 2014 I share some insightful moments with not only artists but doers, movers and shakers that work hard everyday to to bring forth a little light in the world with their knowledge and passion.
Venezuelan born Andres Levin is a song writer and producer and all around cool dude. He’s done a lot for the industry but one of my favorite things is that he put together this band called Yerba Buena along with Cucu Diamantes. They have a sound with clever lyrics that make you think and smile as you sing a long and of course shake more than your tail feather because the music is that good.
In 2013 Gabriela Isler won the title of Miss Universe on behalf of her native Venezuela. It’s a cliché to say but she really is beautiful inside in out. When I met her as Miss Universe she was super humble and very sweet. We talked fashion and Venezuelan politics but to much dismay Venezuela is still under the dictating rule of Nicolas Maduro. The country has been hurting for way too long now but by visiting Venezuela Live Aid you can learn more on what’s going on and how you can make a difference.
Cuban singer Cucu Diamantes radiates an energy of peace, love, acceptance and taking chances all at once. Talking with her is like talking to a girlfriend that you hadn’t seen in way too long yet it seems as if time hasn’t gone by.

Bionica: You are quite dapper today!
Andres Levin: Thank you.
Bionica: You’re wearing bright prink with navy blue pants. What inspired you to choose this look for today?
Andres Levin: I’m sort of known for dressing a little differently and I just love color. I’m wearing clothes by my designer friend Duncan Quinn. And you know, black tie, we’re on stage and we’re bringing a little bit of color and difference to the gala so why not wear something different you know?
Bionica: So you’re going to sing for us today?
Andres Levin: Yes! Well today, Cucu (the Chair) and I’m Co-Chair along with a very interesting group from Nueva Gente, New York. The idea is to mix some art with music. Cucu will sing through out the night, not just at the end when there will be a great concert which will include songs from Yerba Buena which we haven’t played in a while and songs from her new album. She will be debuting a new song called Pecado de Picasso (Picasso’s Sin) which is inspired by the sprit of art in New York and this opportunity that we have to take part in it.
Bionica: As a musician, you know the importance of art. How did art influence you growing up?
Andres Levin: Well, I am the son of artists. My parents first taught me about music and art before teaching me how to tie a tie, this is something I learned much after (pointing to tie). I know of nothing that exists without art. It’s the purest thing in the world, the grand mystery that moves our day to day.
Gabriela Isler: For today’s look I wanted something conservative that would represent me, my personality at the same time and I loved this because it’s modest and sexy at the same time. It has the lace sleeves, open back… I’m always trying to add a little color with jewelry and I think the hair and makeup can give a more youthful look and it was perfect for tonight.
Bioncia: What’s your favorite piece to
wear, for example are you more into skirts, pants… What defines Gabriela Isler when she goes out? What is it that says ‘this is Gabriela’?
Gabriela Isler: I think it’s hard to single out a single item, I think it all comes down to style as a whole. I’m a classic, modest woman, the kind that thinks that less is more and is prettier. So define me, I would say something very classic, it could be a white shirt with a pair of jeans or a nice handbag or accessories and that’s it.
Bionica: Do you have a favorite designer?
Gabriela Isler: There’s a few. I’m from Venezuela and I love the designers from my country. I love Angel Sanchez, I love Carolina Herrera–they are very classic in their style.
Bionca: I love Venezuela too! What can you tell me about everything that is going on right now?
Gabriela Isler: Well I’ve never been one to stay quiet about what’s going on and have always raised my voice for my country. I’ve taken advantage of my platform to raise awareness and to also ask my fellow countrymen to respect and recognize each other. It’s more than a political problem, it’s more than an economic problem, it’s a social problem in that has to do with the acceptance of ideologies, the acceptance of different ways of thinking. And so I’m hurt and sad because these are my brothers, my family, 30 million Venezuelans and we’re all suffering just the same. I just moved here about 6 months ago but my family is still there and so it hurts but I’m blessed to be able to raise my voice and I’m going to keep doing it.
Bionica: First off, you are looking radiant tonight! You look like a doll.
Cucu Diamantes: Oh yes!! (excited)
Bionica: How did you pick out what to wear tonight, for such an important event?
Cucu Diamantes: I always like to find vintage pieces, it’s a tradition of mine so that I’m always wearing something different than another person at the gala because there is always this possibility to wear the same outfit if a designer sends you pieces that have also been sent to someone else…I also think that everything has already been done and it’s a human thing to reinvent ourselves from what has already been created. This vintage piece doesn’t even have a tag with the designer’s name on it. Danny Santiago a friend and great stylist lent it to me, he’s responsible for Sex & The City. He had it in his warehouse and he told me I have something fabulous for you and he brought this out, I tried it on and I didn’t have to pick anything. It was like, that’s what you’re going to wear in the evening.
Jackie: It was heaven sent.
Bionica: It’s very pretty.
Cucu Diamantes: It’s also spring that started a little late.
Bionica: You’re going to be singing with Yerba Buena tonight.
Cucu Diamantes: Yes.
Bionica: What can we expect tonight?
Cucu Diamantes: Well my song Pecado de Picasso will premiere tonight and it has to do with all of the sculptures by Ray Smith that are adorning the gala as well as his candelabras.
Bionica: Does this mean that we can expect an album from Cucu sometime soon?
Cucu Diamantes: Yes, yes. It’s already in the production process. And my independent movie Amor Cronico will be out this summer.
Bionica: Can you sing a little bit of Amor Cronico, it’s one of my favorite songs.

I did the interview. I asked Maicol Superstar some questions, he answered and it was good. But then we just kept on talking and I learned that he loves his daughter, he listens to the Orishas–different music is good for creativity. He also has an appreciation for different cultures and considers Mexico to be his second home. Good hospitality. A great person all around that has a lot offer. He has a ➤ 'play' button tattoo to hit 'play' on life. How cool is that?!
Bionica: Maicol Superstar! Maicol Superstar: Yes. Bionica: Out of all the countries that you have visited, which one is your favorite and why? Maicol Superstar: I really don't have a preference. I really like Italy, I really like Spain, Ecuador. I like Mexico, it's my second home. I'm fascinated by Colombia, Santo Domingo is something else…You know, everyone has it's own flavor and it's something really great that they are able to support what's ours. Bionica: What do you miss most when you go away? Maicol Superstar: In reality my bed, it's the best Bionica: What's the weirdest thing that you have seen at a club? Maicol Superstar: Wow, I've seen a lot of weird things. It really depends on what you consider weird Bionica: Once, when I first started going to clubs, a DJ asked 'whose are these?' and he was referring to some silicone. Maicol Superstar: Ok…wow–wow. Well I can tell you, something weird that happened to me at a club was when I fell off stage after dancing kind of crazy. You know I was the joke of the evening. Bionica: Is there something that you have to do overtime before going on stage, some sort of ritual? Maicol Superstar: You know, I always talk with the man upstairs and I ask Him to stay with me–it's worked well so far. Bionica: What do you like most about going up on stage? Maicol Superstar: That I can say what I want with out having to expect anything. I say what I want, when I want, because I want to say it. If you like it good and if you didn't, well I said it because I wanted to. Bionica: And can you do the Maicol Superstar (y puedes hacer el Maicol Superstar?) Maicol Superstar: How does it go? Bionica: The way you do it Maicol Superstar. Maicol Superstar: Maicol Superstar in the house!
Maicol Superstar: You know, I remember when I started in the 90s. I had a beeper and in Carolina there some singers (including me) and in Bayamón there were others. Bayamón is a town in Puerto Rico. And Ivy Queen would tell me 'I love you so much. We're here for whatever you need.' I would reply to her saying 'My love, we're here for you too.' We always had a special love and affection for each other you know. From that moment to today, 2018, you were able to see how our queen still has that same love for us. That makes me proud because it means that what we planted is still there, it's alive. I'm very proud of the queen and how it all went down tonight. Kisses, Ivy baby this is for you Muah!!!
Bionica: You have a son and a daughter? Maicol Superstar: I only have a daughter. Bionica: I would love to be able to go into my dad's closet and pick things out, but his style is very different from mine. Maicol Superstar: I have a daughter and she's the apple of my eye, she's the light of my life and right now I'm here because of her. Bionica: That's beautiful (que hermoso) Does she like your music too? A little? Maicol Superstar: Well, she really isn't into it because since she can remember, she's always seen this as my job. And so it's simply her dad's work. Now she does like this one and the other, so as not to mention any names…But she doesn't get involved with my work you know. She gives me my space and really respects what I do because through it she is who she is. Because of my job, she's able to study at a university, she has her own car. She's a very smart young lady. I'm really proud of her. Bionica: Has she gone to work with you? For example to the recording studio? Maicol Superstar: No, I've invited her but she tells me 'no dad, I don't want to.' She won't go. She doesn't really like to get involved in those things but she does know new artists and she's hang out with some of them although I may not like too much, but that's how it is with young people, you know. Bionica: You don't really like it because as a dad you're being very careful with her? Maicol Superstar: Of course, always. And when I don't like something, she knows that aside from being her dad, I'm her friend and no other person is going to tell her things the way that I will. Bionica: What is she studying? Maicol Superstar: Well right now, she's studying photography. She has a great camera that she made me buy. She has a lot of distant shots and she'll go in a red room (dark room), take the camera, take the picture, put it in water, take her time…She likes it, she really likes it. Bionica: What has been your biggest challenge as a dad? Maicol Superstar: Well it's not easy making a baby. A lot of kids now a days think that it's a joke and it's not. It's a life. It's much more than life itself. You're bringing life into this world and the same way that you need life, this life that you bringing in to this world, this life will always need as well. So really think that one thing is one thing and another is life you know. They have to…I don't know if you follow... Bionica: Yes of course.

His name is Ranking Stone and he's known as the King of the Melons but really he should be known for that seductive voice, he's like the Puerto Rican Barry White. I can hear talk all day.

Ranking Stone: What's going on? How are you? Fan: You sand Los Melones! I'm happy that you sang it. Very good, very good.
Bionica: Well, for starters, Ranking Stone the King of the Melons, but with that voice–did you ever think about working as an announcer? You just speak so beautifully. Ranking Stone: Well, I did study broadcasting before getting into music although music has always been a part of my life because I come from a family of musicians that have always played in bands. My grandparents were troubadours. During Christmas in Puerto Rico we were always the ones who did the Parranda (wassailing) and what not bus aside from that I did study broadcasting. But after I finished my studies, I dedicated myself more to music although I had done all of the news practices, commercial announcing…but I just left it at that. Many people have told me that, but, well I stayed in the path of music. Bionica: You can tell me that I'm ugly, that my hair is a mess and it will still sound good because Ranking Stone said it. Ranking Stone: No, no, no, you're beautiful. Everyone is having a good time here. Bionica: But with that voice… Ranking Stone: You're hair is beautiful. (Sexy voice on!!) Bionica: I love it!! (Me encanta) Ranking Stone: And some spectacular eyes! Bionica: Thank you. Ranking Stone: See, see chuckles. Bionica: Aside from reggaeton, what is your favorite type of music? Ranking Stone: Well, check this out, I really like merengue. Merengue by Grupo Mania, Elvis Crespo. I'm also a salsa lover. I like all genres of music but especially the Latino ones. In regards to rap, hip-hop and the like, I like some but have always had a preference to the latin rhythms. The rhythms that have also instructed me into putting together my songs.
My style is a little different than others and it's because of what I like.
What I really like is Latin music. Bionica: What do you enjoy most about working with your friends? Ranking Stone: Well um chuckles it's a group of humble people above everything. The old school crowd, well we're somewhat seasoned. We enjoy life, we enjoy what we do and we have a lot of passion. For example, DJ Nelson, right now we're here doing this recording and he's around somewhere jumping, dancing, having fun… DJ Negro too!
You know, we're a little older in age in comparison to the kids that are starting out now, but we enjoy life and the truth is that we enjoy what we do. It's the passion that moves us. Bionica: What's the best advice that you have ever received that you still adhere to today. Ranking Stone: Well, my grandparents had always told me to keep my feet on the ground. Humility is the best thing one can have and I think that it's something that has always been a trait of mine. I've always been humble and it's what I've always taken with me and I've tried to stay on that route doing all things with a humble heart and a lot of respect. It's a bit of advice that has lasted me forever. Bionica: Thank you so much. Ranking Stone: Thank you.
He's a dad, he's a husband, he's a cook and also a hard working man that made sure to make his mark and stand out–he's DJ Negro!!! Pioneer of that old school movement that has helped shape reggaeton into what it is today.
El es padre, un esposo, chef esquisto, un hombre luchador que trabajó duro para sobresalir–el es DJ Negro!!! Pionero de la vieja guardia, ese movimiento clave que ha influido lo que es reggaeton hoy en dia.
Bionica: DJ Negro, what is it that you like most about your job? DJ Negro: What I enjoy most about my job?Seeing people enjoy what I do. Me at the turntables, preparing the music, getting people pumped and then you see how they dance, they sing… It's kind of like when you make rice & beans or whatever it is that you're eating and you prepared this meal that's really good. You set the table and then nobody eats and you say to yourself 'Wow, after I spent all this time making it…' You know, its satisfying to see people having a good time as a result of what your doing. Bionica: If you weren't a DJ, what would you be? DJ Negro: A cook. Bionica: Si? Yeah? DJ Negro: Because I love being in the kitchen. Todo Latin Network: Food is great. Bionica: What's your specialty? DJ Negro: Lasagna. Bionica: Really? DJ Negro: I love lasagna. Bionica: OMG DJ Negro: Listen, for your information, I graduated as a chef. I've got my certification and everything, and I'm also quite good. And if it's bad, then I really won't make it at home, my wife will make it laughs. Bionica: Do you have kids? DJ Negro: Yes, I have 3 kids. Bionica: What is it that your kids like the most, about their dad being DJ Negro? DJ Negro: Well, I already have 2 adolescents. My son is 25 and my daughter is 23. They don't always say it, but every once in a while I'll hear 'Papi, I met this person and when they found you're my dad they went crazy' laughs. When they were kids, they didn't really listen to reggaeton, they were more into rock and the like. They didn't really keep tabs on me in that sense, but now that they're older and have seen what their dad has done, they say 'Wow.' Bionica: What's something that you always try to teach your kids. DJ Negro: Well, I tell them they shouldn't smoke, they shouldn't be dealers and that they should try to do things legally. It's worked up to now. Todo Latin Network: What does a legend like you say to the new generation that wants to DJ? What advice do you have for them? DJ Negro: Well, when I started in '83, I'm going to tell you this story that happened to me. I couldn't DJ for the life of me. I had never even touched the turntables but I felt that I knew how to do what the DJ was doing and I remember this DJ from the town I was born in, La Perla San Juan. I told him 'Listen, let me play something, I know how to do it' and this is what he said to me '#@$% off and don't bother me' and I told him 'I'm going to learn and I'm going to beat you at your own game.' I ran into him some 10 years after that while I was DJing and he tells me 'S@!* DJ Negro let me play something' and I asked him 'Do you remember what you told? #@$% off? Now it's your turn to #@$% off' laughs
But really, my advice is to keep going. Perseverance is your tool to show others that yes you can do it. Bionica: Thank you so much.
Le encantan los animales, mas que eso los perros, algo que para mi
sencillamente merece un 10. Y no le tiene miedo aventurar, mudando se a

The man is an animal lover, more than that, a dog person which gets double points in my book. He is also one who is not afraid to try something new like moving to a new country and starting a new. A person that is not afraid to travel, just opens to some of the best things that life has to offer, and that person is Alberto Stylee.
Bionica: I know you have a little dog named Danita. Alberto Stylee: Yes. Bionica: Como esta ella? How is she? Alberto Stylee: She's going to be 3 years old. She's my daughter because I don't have any kids yet. I'm working on it, but she's my little girl and my heart. I love that little dog. I'm working on getting her travel permit so I can bring her with me everywhere I go. So next time you will see her with me all over. She's the baby. Bionica: Yes! I have 3 little dogs and I love them so much. Alberto Stylee: Look, I'm the type of person that for example will use animals in general to feel a person out. I will ask a person if they like animals and if they tell me no…Because it's not the same to say that you don't like animals as to say that they aren't really your thing. There are people that like animals, they're cute and all but that's about it. There are people who simply don't like them. And I've always said that a person that doesn't like animals, has no heart. It's a good way to learn about the people that are around you. Bionica: I agree because they have a sense that we don't and go by vibes. For example if they bark at a certain person a lot… Alberto Stylee: Exactly. And an animal is just going to give you love. They're beautiful, what's not to like about them? It's one thing for a person to like animals but not want one, but if you just don't like them well…You know what I mean? And it is a good way for you to be able to pick out your friends by simply asking them because let's say that one day you're with your dog and they come over… For example, one of my best friends, Latin, he's Christian now but he was a reggaeton artist, he takes care of my dog when I go away. My dog loves going over to his house and they love her. Bionica: What's the wildest thing she has done? Alberto Stylee: When she was a puppy, if someone left a piece of paper on the floor, she would rip it to shreds. One day she took a whole newspaper while I had gone out and when I got back home there were bits of newspaper all over the house. And another thing, when she does something wrong or pees or poops where she isn't supposed to–she's trained but there are times…we know that she did something because she will hide. 'Where's the dog?' She did something, but if you look around the house you'll find her hehehe. Bionica: She's too cute. Once, I was either at work or school, we had 2 dogs and they took the paper towel and made a mess! Alberto Stylee: Yes! They have a party, they mostly break everything when they're in that puppy stage, they experiment a lot. But she is the light of my life that little dog. I love her so much and I love animals and have always been a part of my life. Bionica: Your song Her Name is Sara (Ella Se Llama Sara), was there a special love in your love named Sara? Alberto Stylee: Never, and people have always asked me, and it's called I Imagine You (Te Imagino) not Her Name is Sara (Ella Se Llama Sara). Bionica: Aah. Alberto Stylee: Everyone always asks me that, but in reality it's a rhyme. No one compares to you, her name is Sara (ti ninguna se compara, ella se llama Sara). It's the name that came about at that moment and I think it was also the most popular name in Colombia, thanks to my people there whom I love and miss so much, they made it #1. Bionica: What do you like most about your job? Alberto Stylee: I love being able to sing. I love singing. I love being able to receive the euphoria and applause of the audience when they sing my songs. One of the good things about being a musician aside from the fact that you do have to work hard, people think it's all fun and games but you do have to sacrifice a lot. I love traveling and going to different places. It's one of the great things about being a singer/musician. Bionica: I also went to Colombia and I loved it, especially the warmth of the people there. What about Colombia made you fall in love with it because I had spoken with Nicky and I think it was him that said that you told him to go to Colombia. Alberto Stylee: Yes, he and I practically moved in together and our careers took off once again there. But what I liked most about Colombia was the pleasantness of the people and the weather in the city, especially in Medellin. It was always exquisite, compared to where I'm from an island where it's always hot but I love my Puerto Rico. I call Medellin my second home, I really like it, the way people are sherry loving and how Colombians are just so welcoming, how they greet you…Especially in Medellin, the weather–the country itself is just beautiful. The vegetation and mountains are one of the key things that got me. Christmas in Puerto Rico is like no other and for a Puerto Rican person to spend the holidays away from home it's hard but Colombia is that place where I can tell you that it's almost the same, it's where I was able to feel like I was home. Bionica: Tu set en el Boiler Room, lo vi en YouTube. Estuvo muy buena porque había de todo. Riobamba: Gracias. Bionica: Que es algo que nunca puede faltar en tus mezclas? Riobamba: Definitivamente me gusta mezclar Oye Mi Canto. Me gusta ese sentido de unión, de orgullo por la cultura y todo eso y al fin siempre lo toco en mi set. Bionica: ¿Cuál fue el tipo de música que mezclaste por primera vez? Riobamba: La primeras mezclas fueron en fiestas familiares. Mi abuela siempre tenía cds grabados de salsa vieja y merengue entonces yo los tomaba y los mezclaba. Al mezclar quiero decir que los hojeaba antes de tocarlos. Bionica: Que col. Vi en tu instagram que dijiste que hoy es uno de esos momentos que has estado esperando. Riobamba: Umhmm. Bionica: Para ti, qué es lo mas esperado de esta noche? Riobamba: Definitivamente Ivy Queen ha sido una de las primeras artistas y también definitivamente una de las primeras mujeres de quien supe cuando empece aprender sobre el reggaeton. Para mi es un gran honor estar en el mismo lugar que ella. Bionica: Muchísimas gracias.

There is a saying that a person's grandeur is measured by their humility and because of that I can tell you that she is a great person. She is also very talented with an incredible knack for words.
Bionica: You're from Colombia? Rosa Pistola: From Bogota, but my family is from a small town in Antioquia named Las Ceja. And everything that I love in this world is there. Bionica: But you live in Mexico? Rosa Pistola: Yes, I live in Mexico. Bionica: What made you go to Mexico? Rosa Pistola: Well it was very random. Life put me in a certain situation and I made the decision to go in a week. I honestly didn't think about it, but I'm happy with the decision I made. Bionica: How long have you been in Mexico? Rosa Pistola: 13 years. Bionica: Oh wow, a long time. Rosa Pistola: Yes. Bionica: I heard your song La Linea del Sex (The Sex Hotline) Rosa Pistola: Aha Bionica: It's very sexual but it's great, the lyrics and how everything just fits. How do you do it (cómo lo haces)? Rosa Pistola: Well actually what I do is look for and find talent and then I make a mix with high level artists or producers like King Doudou in this case. Then I make songs you wouldn't expect but very high quality.
El Habano is an underground reggaeton singer that's very famous in Mexico but has never received the credit he deserves. It's because, well his music can be a little much. With these collaborations I'm hoping that the world will be able to hear and know what Mexican reggaeton is. And this song sounds like Mexican reggaeton. Bionica: When I heard your song I thought about Maxx Gallo a guy I had met at an event. He says that his style is a little alburero (has a double meaning). Rosa Pistola: Ah yes, well Mexico is a country where the culture is somehow rooted in the albur (double meaning…) There are actual contests within the towns and that can be a little difficult to deal with because it's obvious that the more popular you become, well then they start to make these jokes about you… So you know, online bullying is hard. Bionica: Tell me about your tattoos, this one (on your face, it looks like the phases of the moon) does it have to do with the moon? Rosa Pistola: To be honest, I really did it because I saw that some indigenous people in the Amazon had it. I thought it was nice and so I got one too. Bionica: Tell me about your style. Rosa Pistola: Well I try to find inspiration in everything and I think that you can tell. I take a little bit from here and there and turn it into Rosa Pistola. Bionica: What do you enjoy most about working with music? Rosa Pistola: That I'm able to get things off my chest and get rid of so much $!#?

La pieza que presenté para el concurso se llama Watch Your Back (Cuidado con tu alrededor) y básicamente se trata de un grupo de amigos que son víctimas de un accidente trágico al salir de una barra. A lo primero pensaba convertirlo en un libro y como no lo hice decidí usarlo para el concurso. Bionica: Entonces es una historia corta. Nicole Reyes: Si. Bionica: Es una historia muy profunda. Me puedes decir qué te inspiró a escribirla? Nicole Reyes: Si recuerdo bien estaba en la pagina Wattpad en la que leo historias. Leí tanto que me sentí motivada a escribir. A lo primero iba ser un libro romántico pero después las cosas cambiaron. Bionica: Usualmente que tipo de libros te gusta leer? Nicole Reyes: Novelas, libros de misterio. Bionica: Quieres ser licenciada de literatura? Nicole Reyes: Probablemente si. Bionica: Cuales son las universidades que te han llamado la atención? Nicole Reyes: He pensando en estudiar en Cornell, también algunas universidades estatales como Geneseo y algunas en la ciudad como NYU. Bionica: ¿Cuál es tu libro favorito de todos los tiempos? Amy Ewing: Siempre digo que es El BFG de Roald Dahl, fue el primer libro que leí mas de una vez y me encanta volver a leer los libros. Tengo un amor profundo & apasionado por Roald Dahl. El definitivamente me influyo mucho mientras leía durante mi niñez. También pienso que me ha influido algo con ese tema oscuro que le agrego a lo que escribo. Bionica: Hace poco, vi la película de James & el melocotón Gigante Amy Ewing: Ah si, si, si. Sabes, soy una perfeccionista con las interpretaciones de sus libros. Me parece que muy pocas veces, pueden captar su esencia tal como es. Esa de James no quedo nada mal y siento que la obra de Matilda en Broadway es muy buena pero la película no me gusta para nada. Bionica: De veras? Amy Ewing: De veras. No me gustó para nada. Bionica: ¿Cómo va ser? Amy Ewing: Se que muchas personas no piensan lo mismo pero soy muy fiel a Roald Dahl. Bionica: No he leído sus libros, pero me gusta mucho que los niños siempre son los héroes. Amy Ewing: Sus libros son maravillosos y los adultos son terribles. En verdad, que son mas que cruel. Cuando niña era muy miedosa y se me hace raro que los niños son de alguna manera atraídos a lo tenebroso en un lugar seguro y lo hace tan bien por que es lleno de humor y de una prosa fantástica. Bionica: El hombre era un genio. De la manera en que sus historias están compuestas te hace preguntar 'y como fue que se inventaron todo esto?' Amy Ewing: Si, lo se. Y sus conceptos son únicos. También te cuento que soy gran admiradora de Tolkien. Me encanta El Señor de los Anillos. Él me inspira en la manera que el crea un mundo. Si yo pudiera llegar a su nivel…pero hago el intento. Bionica: No he leído los libros, pero esas películas son espectaculares. Amy Ewing: Las películas son una tremenda interpretación de los libros, excepto la tercera película. No estuve muy de acuerdo con esa, pero creo las primeras dos quedaron perfectas! Lo que pasa es que fueron hechas bajo la dirección de un fiel amante a Tolkien. Se empeñó en cada hecho y detalle que ha cautivado a los lectores, sabiendo que iba ser lo mismo con las personas no conocen la historia a fondo. Bionica: Las películas me dan un poco de ansiedad porque quiero saber que es lo que es lo que sigue…Pero me encantan! Tengo entendido que también querías ser actriz. Amy Ewing: Si, es cierto. Bionica: Pero terminaste siendo autora. ¿Cómo llegó ese cambio? Amy Ewing: Bueno, estudié teatro en NYU pero para ser actor tienes que ir a pruebas y eso me daba pavor. No se si era miedo al éxito o al fracaso o tal vez ambos. Siempre tenía escudas para no ir a una y si en verdad quieres ser actor, ir a pruebas es algo vital. Al fin cuando llegué a descubrir la escritura, era algo que podía hacer sola. Tan solo necesitaba mi imaginación y una computadora o lápiz y papel. Para ser actor se necesita un guión, un elenco, un director y un publico. Entonces sentí que era algo en el que podía desenvolver mi creatividad sin prisa, en mi hogar y bajo mis términos. Ahí fue cuando descubrí 'este es mi destino' y no te voy a mentir, yo fracasé. Escribí el libro que me ayudó hacer mi posgrado y fue pésimo! Le hice unos ajustes y se lo mandé a varios agentes, unos 60 agentes…Y sencillamente fue rechazado y me dijo 'esta bien, tal vez este no sea el libro…' y lloré, tomé mucho vino y después me dijo 'o puedes seguir llorando o puedes escribir otro libro.' Me quedaba un semestre por terminar la maestría y me dije 'vamos a escribir otro libro.' Ese fue mi tesis, La Joya fue mi primer libro. Bionica: ¿Crees que te gustaría ver tus libros convertidos en películas? Amy Ewing: Eso sería lo máximo! Mis libros son algo extravagantes entonces hay muchos trajes hermosos, fiestas, palacios–y me encantaría ver todo eso en la pantalla gigante. Y los chicos guapos Eso sería algo increíble. Honestamente, el sencillo acto de recibir un correo de un fan o alguien diciendo 'leí tu libro y me gustó' me llena. Es decir como que esa persona también conoce a mis amigos imaginarios y que les caigan bien–me hace sentir agradecida. Bionica: ¿A dónde vas cuando necesitas inspirarte? Amy Ewing: Si me siento algo estancada, salgo a caminar. En verdad no hay manera de inspirarte, tan solo lo tienes que hacer. Se que suena canson pero tienes que llegar a esa página y empezar a escribir. Es seguir y no darte por vencido aunque tan solo sean palabras porque una hoja en blanco no se puede arreglar. Tan solo se puede remediar lo que ya esta. No importa si tienes que borrar todo lo que escribiste y empezar de nuevo, por lo menos lo intentaste. Al escribir libros he aprendido a fracasar mejor. Se que los primeros intentos pueden ser de los peores y ya no soy tan apegada al primer bosquejo. No ando diciendo 'Dios, ¿será que este es el capitulo perfecto? ¿La frase perfecta? ¿La escena perfecta? Ahora pienso 'eh–puede ser que ni llegue a la prueba final' Cuando tu editora te da sus revisiones es como que 'bueno, ese tema quedo fuera y ahora debe ser de esta manera…y esto debiera de estar pasando así' Se que las cosas pueden cambiar y me aferro menos. Bionica: ¿Piensas que es mejor escribir en primera persona, segunda persona, tercera persona…? Amy Ewing: Pienso que todo depende del libro. Mi primera serie fue en primera persona, en el presente y mi serie de ahora esta escrita en tercera persona con cuatro narradores distintos que van mejor con esa historia. De verdad que depende del tipo de historia que este contando. Te digo que si me sentí atada al final de mi primera serie porque estaban pasando tantas cosas que no podía distinguir si Violet no la veía. Entonces pienso que eso fue lo que me hizo escribir en tercera persona para el segundo libro. Quise tener la posibilidad de poder explorar otros puntos de vista y no solamente uno. Y para el próximo creo que lo haré en primera persona porque se me hace difícil escribir con distintos narradores. Lo tomaré mas suave para la próxima. Es bueno retarse constantemente–yo no quiero escribir lo mismo siempre. Bionica: A pesar de ser autora, ¿de qué otra manera dirias tu que te ha influenciado la lectura? Amy Ewing: Me salvó en varias ocasiones de distintas maneras. Ejemplo, una vez un perdí un amigo que murió así de repente y leí Harry Potter nuevamente por la quinienta vez. Era lo único que podía hacer para buscar aliento. Si termino con alguien o me siento estresada, tengo a mis libros. El Señor de los Anillos es uno de esos libros. Por eso es que me gusta tanto volver a leer un libro. Porque puedo regresar y acordarme de esos lugares, de esas personas…Para mi algunos libros son como una cobija y una taza de chocolate caliente frente a una fogata. Te hace sentir cómodo, te hace sentir bien. Bionica: ¿Estás leyendo algún libro ahora? Amy Ewing: Actualmente estoy leyendo El Cuento de la Criada con la que habían comparado mi serie y no lo había leído antes. Me decía a mi mismo 'no lo quiero leer. Esta historia no fue inspirada con El Cuento de la Criada déjame esperar a que termine la serie.' y termino el año pasado. Después lo vi en Hulu y me quedé boquiabierta, fue bello y depresivo a la vez. El libro es absolutamente magnífico, es increíble. Entonces me alegra de que al fin lo estoy leyendo

Mike Jackson: Me crié en Newark NJ. Y no fue lo mas fácil, me mandaron a un internado por mi comportamiento y funcionó. Se me presentaron muchísimas oportunidades la cuales no hubiese tenido si me hubiera quedado en la vecindad donde me crié. Me fue bien y pude ir a una buena universidad y conseguí un buen trabajo pero al tener ciertos recursos, sentí que era responsabilidad mía de ayudar a las personas que se criaron así como yo para que también puedan salir adelante. La escritura y literatura fue lo que me ayudó a mí. Fui reportero para el periódico de mi escuela secundaria y saque buenas calificaciones para mis pruebas de SATs. Siempre sentí que esto fue lo que me abrió las puertas y lo mas sorprendente de todo es que mi trabajo en Wall St. donde hacia reportes de investigación fue el que me ayudó a dar el primer paso para llegar donde estoy. Luego trabajé en ventas para la bolsa de valores y me fue bien. Sentí que también tenía que proveer para las personas que no tuvieron las mismas oportunidades que otros. Bionica: ¿Piensas en volver a Newark para tener algún tipo de programa parecido? Mike Jackson: Mi mamá y su esposo trabajan en el sistema educativo de Newark, entonces estoy allí y siempre los ayudo. Me gusta mucho. Bionica: Si! Es algo muy necesario. Mike Jackson: Claro. Llama a la casa, es el mismo barrio, mismo numero… Todo bien. Bionica:¿Cual es tu libro favorito? Mike Jackson: Bueno, mis libros favoritos son los de Game of Thrones-El Juego de Tronos. Los he leído varias veces. Bionica: Tu primer video fue un DIY-como hacer un labial. Karina Garcia: Si. Así fue. Bionica: Como es que haces ese cambio de labial a moco casero? Karina Garcia: Bueno, un día vi un tutorial de Pinterest para hacer moco casero y me pareció tan divertido. Hice un lote básico con una receta sencilla. Entonces quise hacer algo distinta, experimentar con ingredientes nuevos para una textura diferente. Hacía cosas raras, por ejemplo hice una galletita oreo de arcilla y la rellené con el moco casero y de ahi el moco casero se convirtió en una parte vital de mi vida. Mi canal de Youtube es literalmente 90% moco. Una locura. Bionica: Vi que hiciste una bola de casi 100 libras de moco. Karina Garcia: Si. Bionica: ¿Porqué decidiste hacer una bola tan grande? Karina Garcia: No se. Siente que exagero un poco con mis vídeos y mientras mas, pues mejor. Para mi es muy raro hacer un lote normal cuando preparo el moco. Me encanta hacer lotes grandes. Me divierto mucho y siento que estoy hundiendo me en el moco. Es lo mejor! Bionica: Vi en el video que intentaron alzar la bola de moco pero se les hizo difícil. Karina Garcia: Si. Estaba rodando literalmente. Fue muy duro tratar de agarra la. Un lío. Bionica: ¿Al final, la pudieron alzar? Karina Garcia: No. Nadie la pudo alzar. No mas estaba rodando… Bionica: ¿Te quedó algo? ¿O la usaron para el reto del moco? Karina Garcia: Al fin y al cabo, deje que el moco cayera sobre mi y ahí si que había mucho por limpiar. Bionica: También te gusta hacer velas. Karina Garcia: Si, he hecho velas en el pasado. Bionica: ¿Tienes un olor favorito? ¿Usas esas velas para relajarte? Karina Garcia: Hace mucho tiempo que no hago velas, pero me gustar todo lo que tenga olor y es lo mismo con el moco. Si tiene olor, siento que me relaja. Mi favorito es el marshamallow fireside-malvavisco frente a una fogata. Esa vela lo es todo! Me vuelvo loca cuando llega la temporada navideña en las tiendas de Bath & Body Works. Bionica: Tienes 23 años verdad? Karina Garcia: Si, tengo 23. Bionica: Eres tan joven, y has escrito un libro sobre ti. Karina Garcia: Muchísimas gracias. Bionica: ¿Porqué decidiste escribir un libro ahora, y no esperar hasta mas tarde? Karina Garcia: Bueno, inicié mi canal de Youtube con manualidades y siempre quise hacer un libro sobre eso pero estaba muy ocupada con el moco. Ese fue el primer libro que salió, con recetas para el moco casero. Luego me dije '¿sabes qué? Tienes que conectarte con tus raíces, donde empezó todo' las manualidades…Decidir sacar un libro de manualidades con muchos DIY cosas que se pueden hacer en casa. Desde DIYs cosas que se pueden hacer para el regreso a clases, decoración en la casa, trucos para hacer las cosas mas fáciles… Cualquier cosa que representa mi canal de Youtube a pesar del moco casero. Me parece que le estaba prestando demasiada atención al moco y ya era tiempo de salir con algo relacionado a las manualidades. Bionica: A pesar de las anualidades, ¿cocinas? Karina Garcia: No mucho. Aunque todas las semanas, mis amistades se reúnen en mi casa y hacemos enchiladas, pero es lo único que se hacer. De verdad que no se cocinar mucho. Ibi Zoboi: Mi favorita historia de amor es la de Orgullo & Perjuicio y resulta que estoy escribiendo una versión de tal que saldrá dentro de poco y de verdad que me gusta mucho. No sabía que me iba gustar tanto, pero mientras lo entiendo mejor, me gusta mas. Bionica: Jane Austen es fenomenal. Ibi Zoboi: De verdad que sí. Y me encanta el tema de la clase social. Niño rico y la chica pobre–pobre niña rica… Bionica: Tú próximo libro ¿es una novela? Ibi Zoboi: Mi próximo libro no es una novela. Actualmente es algo corto pero lleno de amor y momentos dulces, momentos de pasión y poemas de amor. Bionica: Me encantan las historias de amor. ¿Me puedes decir sobre tú historia de amor? Ibi Zoboi: Bueno, he estado casada por 16 años y fui novia de mi esposo por tan solo unas semanas antes de que me pidiera matrimonio. Bionica: Entonces te gustó tan pronto lo conociste? Sabes que la lectura siempre fue tan importante para mi durante mi niñez porque no tenía muchas amistades en la escuela pero si los tenía en mis libros. El leer era un escape para mi y los libros me daban la gran oportunidad de soñar y crear un mundo. Bionica: ¿Cuál es tu genero favorito? Bevy Smith: Mi genero favorito es ese de las autobiografias. Bionica: ¿De verdad? Bevy Smith: Si, me encanta una auto-biografia. Bionica: ¿Cual era tu libro favorito cuando niña? Bevy Smith: Leí muchos libros raros y algo escandalosos pero de los libros bonitos, los de Judy Blume. Me encantaban los libros de Judy Blume. Bionica: Es que ella fue la mejor amiga de cada niña durante su adolescencia. Te decía las cosas que los padres no decían. Bevy Smith: Exactamente Bionica: ¿Qué libro estas leyendo ahora? Bevy Smith: Estoy leyendo la biografía de Nelson Rockefeller. Bionica: ¿Piensas que escribirás un libro algún día? Bevy Smith: Justamente ahora, estoy escribiendo un libro. Mas que nada es un libro de ayuda propia en el que hablo sobre como cambié de carrera a los 38 años y de esa manera di un gran giro a mi vida. Bionica: ¿Qué fue eso que te hizo decidir escribirlo todo? Bevy Smith: Sabes, tengo un taller que se llama Life Vision/Visión de Vida en el que doy una charla sobre el camino que he recorrido y como ha cambiado mi vida. Y me di cuenta de que muchas mujeres quisieran tener algo para llevarse a casa. Me han dicho 'Has compartido tantas cosas buenas que me encantaría tener un libro como referencia para tu palabras…' y me dije 'debes escribir un libro' Bionica: Estos talleres, ¿son frecuentes? Bevy Smith: No tanto, los tengo como 4 veces al año en diferentes lugares aunque siempre tengo uno aquí en NY. Bionica: ¿Cómo podemos hacer para saber cuando son los talleres?
